Claire Bellerjeau and Tiffany Yecke Brooks, authors of Espionage and Enslavement in the Revolution: The True Story of Robert Townsend and Elizabeth, wrote an article that was posted by Smithsonian Magazine online. Bellerjeau, Raynham Hall’s former Historian and Director of Education, explained further research conducted after her book’s release exploring how Elizabeth, a person enslaved by the Townsend family, may have helped uncover Benedict Arnold’s plot to turn over Fort West Point to the British during the American Revolution.
